Student Responsibilities as Advisees

• Schedule appointments to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure you are on the right path (this includes calling to cancel or reschedule in a timely manner if necessary).
• Know your graduation plan and requirements.
• Come prepared with all relevant materials (including a copy of your graduation plan, information from your desired transfer institution(s) if appropriate, questions you may have, etc.).
• Follow through with actions discussed.

Advisor Responsibilities

• Maintain an open, professional environment.
• Be available through email and office hours.
• Be knowledgeable about programs, policies, and graduation requirements.
• Assist in developing educational and career goals.
• Refer students to campus resources as needed.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Students working toward completion of a degree, diploma, or certificate must maintain satisfactory academic progress to remain in good standing. To stay eligible for graduation, financial aid, and veterans鈥� benefits, students must complete all required courses in their program with a minimum cumulative 2.00 GPA (C average).

Unsatisfactory Academic Progress

Academic Warning

Students who earn below the minimum cumulative GPA are placed on Academic Warning for their next semester of enrollment. With their advisor鈥檚 help, these students should reassess their course load (recommended maximum: 13鈥�15 credit hours) and academic goals for the upcoming term.

Academic Probation I

Students who remain below the required cumulative GPA for a second consecutive semester are placed on Academic Probation I. They are no longer eligible for financial aid or D.V.A. benefits during the following term. Working with an advisor, students will develop an academic improvement plan, which may include a referral to counseling or consideration of a new program of study.

If a full-time student earns a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher while on Academic Probation I but has not yet reached the required cumulative GPA, the student remains on Academic Probation I until satisfactory progress is achieved.

Academic Probation II

Students who fall below the minimum cumulative GPA for three consecutive semesters are placed on Academic Probation II. These students are not eligible for financial aid or D.V.A. benefits and must meet the following requirements during their next term:

1. Re-register for courses (any pre-registration is nullified)
2. Take no more than six credit hours

If a student earns a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher while on Academic Probation II but has not yet met the required cumulative GPA, they remain on Academic Probation II until they achieve satisfactory standing.

Removal from Unsatisfactory Status

Once a student鈥檚 cumulative GPA meets the minimum requirement listed in the Satisfactory Academic Progress Scale, they will be removed from unsatisfactory academic progress status. However, academic warning and probation designations remain a part of the student鈥檚 permanent record.
